Behind the Lens
Erin
Behind the Lensfun stuff...I love my husband. He is totally hot!My kids are awesome and ornery, in that order.I use the words 'totally' and 'awesome' way too much.I am drawn to the anything that is mustard or chartreuse colored - I realize others are not.I become a different creature w/out coffee and/or diet coke.Babies are my kryptonite.I know that dynamite comes in small packages - aka, I'm short.I am a perfectionist by heart.I can almost instantly tell if we are going to be good friends by whether or not you like Scrubs and/or The Office.I often forget the lyrics to a song, even if I've heard it a million times. My husband corrects me, and loves me anyway.I love all things mac.I don't know how to whistle with my fingers - never have, probably never will.I have a BFF - I am older than 12.I believe God gave us 10,000+ taste-buds to enjoy pairings.Seeing the world through a lens has completely changed my life.I would be nothing without my Lord & Savior, and am so blessed to be doing what I love!serious stuff... I sort of chose this career path without even realizing it. I had never taken a photography class in my life, nor really any classes in the “artistic” field before. I actually went to school for an undergrad in Development Psychology. And before I started having children, I did a stint in the “real world” and worked for a not-for-profit in the early-intervention field. After having our first son, that all changed. I found that I wanted to capture every little detail of every little moment with him. I hated when he turned one day older, and would do a daily, self-quiz by shutting my eyes tight and would try to picture him in my head as a newborn, 1-week-old, etc. I quickly realized that method wasn’t doing him much justice - with my ever fading post-pregnancy, mommy brain! Luckily, I had gotten a top-of-the-line point & shoot for Christmas the month before. I decided to pull it out and see just how many of those every-changing details I could capture. Needless to say, a hobby was born. After the birth of our second son, the hobbyist obsession grew from ‘amateur’ to ‘serious enthusiast.’ In my seriously limited knowledge of photography, I began posing my boys with fun little holiday props, would affix sheets and comforters to the walls as back-drops, and would play kid-torture with them to try and get them to pose for me. With my ever-developing eye and a serious amount of LUCK, these little adventures landed me some pretty descent shots of my kiddos. I printed a few of them in bigger sizes, framed them, and hung them with pride. Those around me began to comment on my “artwork” hanging on my walls. I began to get a ton of affirmation from my friends and family. And after a bad experience in a not-to-be-named-chain-store-photography-shop, I took a leap of faith and decided to dive into this business as a professional. I purchased some professional equipment, drooled over my new DSLR, and opened up shop in October of 2008. I am mostly self-taught, spending an obscene amount of time on the internet, perusing forums, and taking life-lessons right from my camera. I did take some courses through NYI (New York Institute of Photography) to help me get off the ground, but most of what I have learned has come through my own blood, sweat, and tears. And, because this is an ever-changing industry, I am still learning new things and developing new techniques all the time. One thing that has stayed consistent is my style. I love capturing images that are emotive and real. I love when parents tell me, “that is just so (fill in name)!” I feel like I’ve done my job when you can look at your images and be instantly transported back to that instant in your life, your child’s life - a moment captured in time. Just like those moments I began trying to capture of my newborn son, I want you to having a cherished image that is forever priceless to you. I want you to smile, laugh, even cry with what’s been frozen in my camera. I want you to believe that your picture is truly worth “1K Words.”

In this way, we are able to deliver heirloom quality images that are personalized and true to you.sessionDuring the "lifestyle" session, your family is encouraged to be themselves, let loose, and have fun! You may be asked to "pretend like I'm not here," or "snag a kiss!" if the moment calls for it.Be prepared to be a little silly, wacky, and crazy!Children will be encouraged to do what they do best --- act like children. They will be prompted to explore, play, wiggle, jump, and scream and shout! Really - we want them comfortable in their environment so that we can capture the "experience" and their natural expressions. Parents may have to step in to help with silliness, prop holding, and random animal noises.dedicationThe time involved in your custom session is only a small portion of the time involved in the overall process. After your images are captured, they are reviewed and critiqued based on our creative sensibilities. The remaining images are fully-edited, color-corrected, blemish-free, and graphically perfect. 1K Words Photography takes great pride in the work that is presented to you. We care about these images so much, it is worth taking the extra time to ensure that the portrait art you receive is good enough to stand by with our name on it. Portrait Art that is unique to you and truly worth 1K Words.
faq's
frequently asked questionsq: Do you provide digital images?a: Yes, you have the option of purchasing individual digial images a la carte, within a collection, or all images from your session on a personalized CD. q: How will I view my proofs? and how long does it take?a: After 7-10 business days, your proofs are posted in on online gallery that is password protected. The photographer will contact you within a couple of days of posting your gallery, to converse with you about doing either an in-person or phone-consult ordering session. The gallery itself will remain active for 2-weeks, and be archived for one year. There are fees associated with re-opening your gallery after the initial viewing period.q: Yeah, but can I still order pictures after the 2-weeks is up?a: Sort of, because the photos are archived, you are able to purchase additional prints at any time within the year following your session. However, this option is only available to those clients who make an initial order within the first 2-weeks, and meet the $200 minimum purchase agreement.q: Will I get any facebook images?a: Yes, we usually post 4-7 water-marked images on our 1K Words Facebook page, as well as on the blog. You may tag yourself in these images, and post them to your profile. However, we kindly ask you not to crop out the logo, or alter the pictures in any way.q: Do you offer "timeline packages?"a: Unfortunately, this is not a standard service we offer because of the nature of being a military family. If we agree to take on a client for one year worth of sessions (i.e. newborn, 6-months, 1-year), there is no guarantee that we will be here to complete all the agreed-upon time frames. However, we can work this out on a case-by-case basis, with no pre-purchasing of future sessions.q: Why can't I view your full pricelist?a: First off, we offer a wide range of products, with a wide variety of options and extras. Posting all that information on our website would be cumbersome and overwhelming. Alternatively, we hope that you will use this platform as a means to concentrate on our work, rather than the pricetag that may be attached. If you see that we have a style and quality that you want, we would very much like you will hire us based solely on those principles. However, we understand that everyone comes into a session with a set budget in mind. You are able to view the basis for our pricing in the prices section of this website and our blog. We hope that our services fit within that budget, and that we can assist you in your portrait needs. q: Are your images copyrighted?a: Yes, the photographs produced by 1K Words Photography & Design are protected by Federal Copyright Law (all rights reserved) and may not be reproduced in any manner without 1K Words Photography & Designs explicitly written permission. Under Copyright law, all original works of authorship automatically receive protection under the law from the the moment they are created and fixed in a tangible form. Meaning? As soon as the shutter button is clicked, the images become property of 1K Words Photography. Commercial use of images is strictly prohibited. Images may not be entered into any contest or submission without prior written authorization. Online images will be locked. Screen grab downloads, printing of digital images and scanning of prints for digital imagery use is illegal and punishable by law. Upon final payment by the client, the client has limited copyright ownership of the resulting images which may be used only for personal use and may not be copied or reprinted without express permission of 1K Words Photography & Design. This permission is included with high resolution disks, with which the owner may make prints for personal use and sharing, as well as use for their personal blogs, sites, and social networks. The owner may not redistribute the disk in any manner. The Client must obtain written permission from, and compensate 1K Words Photography & Design prior to the CLIENT, or its friends/ relatives publishing or selling the images for profit.
